Can I Quote You On That?

March 7th, 2010 Susan 2 comments

Have you ever created a digital scrapbook layout and gotten stuck trying to come up with words that adequately describe what you are thinking?  Adding a quote to a layout is a fabulous way to share your feelings about the moment you have captured in a photo.  Sometimes when I’m looking for inspiration to get started on a layout I’ll look for a quote first and when one snags my attention then just the right photo or kit comes to mind.

Take a look at these layouts created by Suzy and the QTs that show you how easy it is to incorporate quotes into a layout.

Susan's layout
Niki's quote layout
SuzyQ Tastee layout
SuzyQ Believe layout

Now that you’ve had some visual inspiration I have a challenge for you!  Create a layout using a quote and 100% SuzyQ Scraps’ designs, then come back and link us up to your layout before Saturday, Mar. 13th at 11:59 pm Eastern and earn a 25% off coupon to use in SuzyQ Scraps’ store.  That’s not all!  One participant will be randomly chosen to win a $5.00 gift certificate to Suzy’s store!

Don’t have any of SuzyQ’s designs?  Still want to play along?  I know of a way you can get a SuzyQ freebie to use!  Suzy has an add-on freebie available at Log Your Memory, where she’s the guest designer this month.

To make it even easier I am going to give you 10 of my favorite quotes.  You don’t have to use one of these quotes for the challenge but we can always use more inspiration!

Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music.  ~William Stafford

Boy, n.: a noise with dirt on it. ~Not Your Average Dictionary

The only thing worth stealing is a kiss from a sleeping child. ~Joe Houldsworth

Love unlocks doors and opens windows that weren’t even there before. ~Mignon McLaughlin

To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world. ~Author Unknown

Families are like fudge — mostly sweet with a few nuts. ~Author Unknown

You don’t choose your family. They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them. ~Desmond Tutu

Remember, if you’re headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns! ~Allison Gappa Bottke

Giving up doesn’t always mean you are weak. Sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go. ~Author Unknown

Every day is an opportunity to make a new happy ending. ~Author Unknown

I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Until next time — Happy Scrapping!

A Happy Challenge!

March 1st, 2010 SuzyQ 2 comments

Welcome to MARCH! Is it coming in like a lion or a lamb where you live? The wind is calm and the sun is shining where I live, so I’m thinking March decided to come in like a lamb (though if you’d asked me yesterday, I would have bet on a lion, lol).

First, a little announcement — I am the featured designer at Log Your Memory this month! WOOT! I am so excited for all the fun things coming your way. I promise, I’ll post more about this awesome site on Wednesday. For now, let me just say this. Log Your Memory is having several new chats this month — you can find the full schedule in today’s blog post Save These Dates. For members of the Book Club, you can attend a private chat every Monday afternoon at 3 pm Eastern, where you’ll be given a challenge and a template created by me. :) Attendance at the chat isn’t mandatory — the template will be offered for a limited time in the private forum if you can’t make the chat. Each challenge submission is due on Thursday, and for each challenge you complete you’ll receive part of a kit I created especially for Log Your Memory. So if you participate in all 5 challenges, by the end of the month you will have the ENTIRE KIT! Sweet deal! I plan to be at the chat this afternoon, so I hope to “see” you there. (Not a member of the Book Club? Read Saturday’s post for more details on how to become a member, along with a great coupon from Log Your Memory.)

Okay, back to our regular programming! It’s the first Monday of the month, which means it’s time for a new challenge. This challenge marks the first in a series of challenges to help YOU scrap about YOUR individual journey. I’ll provide a prompt and some instructions, and you have until the end of the month to complete the challenge. EVERYONE who plays in the challenge will receive a 25% off coupon to my store, and one lucky random winner will receive a $10 coupon. And if hybrid is more your style, I’ll provide a twist to the challenge so you can play along too! Are you ready? Here we go!

MARCH CHALLENGE PROMPT

This month we’re challenging you to scrap what makes you happy! Sometimes we need a visual reminder of what makes us smile or giggle or laugh out loud … and years from now it will be fun for us (and our loved ones) to look back and see those things, small and big, that brightened our lives.

Here are your challenge guidelines:

  • layout should be about thing(s) and/or person/people that bring you happiness
  • include at least 1 photo
  • predominantly use colors that make you happy
  • put the word happy (or happiness) in the title or journaling
  • include at least 10 words of journaling (can be in any form — paragraph, list, etc.)
  • use lots of the digital scrapbook element(s) you love to use (i.e., buttons, flowers, stitching)

Hybrid twist:

  • Make a card for someone that makes you happy
  • Create it in your happy colors
  • Include the word happy (or happiness) somewhere on the card

Here’s a layout from me, using Sunshine (my contribution to The Digi Files #12 … the kit will be available for purchase in my store later this month). I chose to scrap about my little boy. My happy colors are orange and yellow, and I used the word happy in my journaling. And I LOVE buttons so used a lot of those on the layout, along with strings and stitching.

suzyq scraps layout you make me smile

You have until March 31st at 11:59 pm Eastern to submit your layout or card. You don’t have to use my designs, but I love it when you do. :) Be sure to leave us a comment linking us up to your creation. And remember, everyone who participates will receive a 25% off coupon to my store … and one winner will receive a $10 coupon.

Have fun!

Monthly Challenge for December

December 7th, 2009 Amber 7 comments

Hello, I’m Amber, one of the new QT Members on the Blog Team! I’m delighted to be working with Suzy, and today I’m bringing you the Monthly Challenge for December.

Recently, I took a look through the SuzyQ Scraps Gallery at Scrap Orchard, and I was blown away by all the fabulous layouts. My eye was drawn to one in particular. A layout that was done by none other than SuzyQ! We all know she’s a talented digital scrapbooking designer, but she’s one heck of a layout artist too!

So for this month, I’m challenging you to scraplift this layout:

I’d also like you to twist, flip or rotate the layout!

On mine, I flipped it horizontally:

I used SuzyQ’s kit Jolly Holiday:

Here are a couple more QT layouts for inspiration:

You have until December 31, 2009 at 11:59PM EST (that’s 8:59PM PST) to submit a link to your layout in the comments of this post. A random participant will win fame, glory, and a $10 coupon to SuzyQ’s Store! I can’t wait to see what you create!

November Scrap Mix Challenge

November 9th, 2009 suzysqts 4 comments

Hey everyone! I’m back with this month’s digital scrapbooking “Scrap Mix” challenge. Play along, and you could win a $10 GC to SuzyQ Scraps new store at Scrap Orchard. Who wouldn’t want that, right? And it just so happens that we have a winner from last month! So Tammy (aka MSGHD) email Suzy at suzyqscraps AT gmail DOT com to claim your prize. Check out Tammy’s LO! Fabulous, right? I love that she scrapped about her fave foods! (image is linked if you want to go leave some love!)

Now it’s your turn to win $10 to SuzyQ’s store! This is how it works. I will give you the instructions, you create your LO, then come back to THIS POST, leave a comment linking us to your layout. You have until November 30, 11:59 PM EST to complete this challenge.

Instructions

There are 4 categories: Main color, main element, number of photos, and inspiration. Since this month we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the US, lets create our LOs to show what we’re thankful for!

To figure out what your main color should be, take the day you were born, add up the digits until you have a single digit. For example, if I was born on the 29th day, I would do this: 2+9=11, then 1+1=2. My main color is green. I was actually born on the 2nd day, so green should be the main color on my LO.

To determine what the main element should be on your page, take the number of the month you were born. I was born in the 7th month, so I need to use swirls! If you were born in the 10, 11, or 12 month, you add the digits until you get a single digit (ex. the 11th month would be 1+1=2, so you would use buttons.) You can use other elements, but your main element should be the one that is your month.

To find out how many pictures your LO should have (the same picture duplicated is okay!), you add the digits of the year you were born. Example: 1986, 1+9+8+6=24, 2+4=6, my LO should have two pictures. No more, no less!

Category 4 is your age and will determine what you should use as your inspiration. This month in addition to scrapping about what you’re thankful for, you are also going to scraplift one of the QTs. They all have awesome galleries, so this should be fun. Take your age, add it until you get a single digit, and you’ve got your inspiration. I am 23, so 2+3=5. I get to scraplift my4boys!

You can use your birthday, or your child’s or whoever’s birthday you want to use. Just have fun and be creative!!!

Here are your categories:

Here are links to the QTs galleries for you to use for your scraplifts:
Susan aka IvoryKeys
Mel aka KSCroppyChick
Melissa aka dolbydawgs
Ellie aka Ellie80
Christine aka my4boys
Meghann aka scrapmonster
Amanda aka Manderin Oranges
Athena aka digilicious
Leila aka Leila

Here is my LO. I scraplifted this LO by my4boys called You 2 Color My World. (using the birthday 7/2/1986)

Post the link to your LO as a comment so we can see your creations. Any questions, please ask! One lucky winner will receive a $10 GC to SuzyQ’s store. You have until November 30, 11:59 EST to do this challenge. Looking forward to seeing your creations!

AND, don’t forget to read the post SuzyQ herself made before this one for more opportunities to win GCs to her store!!

October Scrap Mix Challenge!!!

October 2nd, 2009 suzysqts 3 comments

Hey everyone! I’m back with this month’s scrap challenge. Play along, and you could win a $10 GC to Suzy’s store. Who wouldn’t want that, right? And it just so happens that we have a winner from last month! So Lorry email Suzy at sqscrapps at googlemail dot com to claim your prize. Check out Lorry’s LO! Fabulous, right?

Now it’s our turn to win $10 to SuzyQ’s store! This is how it works. I will give you the instructions, you create your LO, then come back to THIS POST, leave a comment linking us to your layout. You have until October 31, 11:59 PM EST to complete this challenge.

Instructions

There are 4 categories: Element to be used most, Number of pictures you should use, Main color, and Inspiration

To figure out what your main element should be, take the day you were born, add up the digits until you have a single digit. For example, if I was born on the 29th day, I would do this: 2+9=11, then 1+1=2. My main element is stitching. I was actually born on the 2nd day, so I should use stitching most on my LO. (You can use other elements, but your main element should be most prominent)

To determine how many photos should be on your page, take the number of the month you were born. I was born in the 7th month, so I can only use 1 photo! If you were born in the 10, 11, or 12 month, you add the digits until you get a single digit (ex. the 11th month would be 1+1=2, so you would use two pictures.)

To find out the main color you should use, you add the digits of the year you were born. Example: 1986, 1+9+8+6=24, 2+4=6, my main color should be white (You can use other colors, but again, your main color should be most prominent!).

Category 4 is your age and will determine what you should use as your inspiration.  Take your age, add it until you get a single digit, and have you’ve got your inspiration. I am 23, so 2+2=5. My LO should be about my favorite food. You can use your birthday, or your child’s or whoever’s birthday you want to use. Just have fun and be creative!!!

Here are your categories:

sq_octchallenge

I will be back to post my LO, but go ahead and get started on yours! And remember: Post the link to your LO as a comment so we can see your creations. Any questions, please ask! One lucky winner will receive a $10 GC to SuzyQ’s store. You have until September 30, 11:59 EST to do this challenge. Looking forward to seeing your creations!
