Scrapbooking
I’m new to digital scrapbooking. Where should I start?
I have an ever-growing list of digital scrapbook resources, as well as several digital scrap tutorials right here on my site. If you have further questions, please email me using my contact form — I’m happy to help you find what you’re looking for and answer your questions.
Hybrid projects look like so much fun, but I’m scared to try. Do you have any tips on starting out?
I sure do! Check out my list of hybrid scrap resources, and check out the hybrid tutorials right here on my site.
Where do you print your digital scrap layouts?
I choose to print my layouts at 8×8 because the albums fit better on my shelves and are easier to handle. I print all of my layouts through Persnickety Prints. Their color, quality, and service is top notch.
Do you teach workshops & classes?
I love to teach and would love an opportunity to teach beginning digital scrapbook classes in a workshop/class setting. Please feel free to contact me to explore this option.
Designing
I want to learn to design digital scrapbook supplies, but I don’t know where to start? Can you help me?
I’m currently in the process of adding some designing tutorials to my web site. I also plan to sell eBooks and classes in the near future. Stay tuned for more information!
Equipment
What program and camera would you recommend for digital scrapbooking?
For beginners, Photoshop Elements is the perfect program for digital scrapbooking. (It often comes bundled with printers and other equipment, so it’s easy to find as well.) You’ll want a computer that meets the minimum requirements for the program — though I recommend a bigger processor and more RAM if you can swing it.
Buy a decent camera … higher megapixels will allow you to shoot bigger pictures. Point-and-shoot cameras do just fine, especially the newer models. Unless you have an interest in photography and want to shoot in manual mode, don’t waste your money on an SLR.
What equipment do you use personally?
Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 … it’s an SLR-like camera and I LOVE it! I mostly shoot in automatic mode, but it does have some manual options, and even a couple of additional lens options.
Scanner: Epson Perfection V500
Printer: HP Officejet 6000 Wireless (it came free with the computer)
Computer: HP Pavilion 180t (desktop PC)
Scrapbook Programs: Adobe Photoshop CS4, occasionally Photoshop Elements
Design Programs: Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe Illustrator CS4, EyeCandy, Filter Forge, Art Rage
Graphics Tablet: Wacom Bamboo Fun (though I will soon be the proud owner of the Wacom Intuos 4)

Background
How did you start scrapbooking?
I started keeping paper scrapbooks back in high school when cropping photos into funky shapes was all the rage. Eventually I stopped cropping so severely, but continued to affix my photos to pretty paper and try to make the layout look good. (Keyword *tried*.) Frustrated by the amount of time it took to set out all my supplies … and clean them all up again … (and feeling like my layouts lacked pizazz after all that effort) I set out to find a way to scrapbook on my computer and stumbled across digital scrapbooking. I was instantly hooked and have never looked back. I am so grateful for my opportunities now to create my own designs and share my knowledge with others.
What’s your education background?
I have a BS in biology (emphasis in zoology) from USU. I’m self-taught in graphic design through classes, books, and a lot of trial and error.
I love to learn and I’m constantly adding to my library to expand my knowledge.
Web Site/Blog
Who designed your web site?
I designed the artwork and layout. The web development side — turning my dreams into reality & making everything work correctly — was provided by my sweet web-developer-in-training husband, Caleb Iverson. (Yes, he’s for hire!)
What blogging platform do you use?
I use WordPress.
I want to create my own site. Where should I start?
If you just plan to blog and show off your scrapbook layouts, a free WordPress blog is absolutely sufficient.
If you plan to sell anything in the future, you should secure a domain and find a host. I recommend GoDaddy. You can install a WordPress blog directly onto your site. Trust me, you’ll want to have your own site for better optimization.
